The kitchen is one activity rooms at home for daily cooking and cleaning, formerly often we see kitchen is separated from the living room and other main rooms, where kitchen has its place out there.

Now, in a modern design concept, we often find kitchen becomes an important activity rooms combining with a living room for meeting place, or just making a coffee while watching television, as well as monitoring children activities while cooking.

According to traditional theory of Feng Shui, kitchen is associated with prosperity and wealth, as we need to put much attention for this part of house as well as increasing its warmth. Since kitchen consists of two elements, which are water and fire, as we need to harmonize and balance these elements so that kitchen could become a place that give a positive energy.

The ideal location is south-facing, because this direction is associated with fire that is also the major element of kitchen. The optimal distribution is putting an island kitchen in the center of room, but this is not always possible regarding to the limited space.

Furthermore, cleanliness and good ventilation will help gaining a calmer and more peaceful atmosphere, as well as not putting other equipment such as telephones or televisions that will interfere with personal relationships and energy movement.

According to Feng Shui theory, cooking and washing areas are the main core in kitchen area. The element of fire and water should be in the same group but are separated at each other place. For example, when oven, microwave and stove are placed at one side, then kitchen sink, dishwasher and washing machine should be placed at the other side. And it’s just not at the opposite side of one to another, but if it’s possible, divide the rooms, give separator as a symbol of the boundary or border that is made of wood or iron.

Stove must be clean and used in an equal balance with other tools, for example not using one tool more than others, which related to the identical balance that can generate a positive economic effect.

Avoid kitchen door that facing the bathroom, or directly facing the entrance of the house. It can be head-to-head to the entrance, but the good location is not directly facing or opposite the entrance. The cooks should not stand directly backing the door, but instead put other elements such as glass or sheet metal, reflecting images that can be viewed while cooking.

As well as any other area at home, natural light is best for lighting the kitchen, although the artificial light is required but should be intense for filling up the air of the kitchen.

It is important to design kitchen in natural look, using plants or vegetable elements such as decorative borders, paintings or photographs of landscapes, flowers fruits pictures, any general botanical aspect, or images that represents people, animals or foods, as all of them are responsible for increasing the positive flow.

The appropriate colors are white, clean and clear shades, avoiding the warmer hues, which therefore can excess fire, as well as not to much water hues, everything should be balance that we may put fire and water shades as long as it doesn’t turn off each other elements. Earthy and soft tones are recommended, which characterized by warmth and tranquility; little tones can be combined with ornamental objects with intense colors.

In the case of kitchen and dining room are located in the same space, they need to be separated, either physically or virtually, for example, a low wall, or playing with lights to differentiate the two areas.

It is such an extensive and interesting topic that can help us understanding some aspects that favor the positive energy flow in our house.
