MUSH RESIDENCE between Work and Entertainment
The project was developed based on three fundamental requirements specified by the commissioner: first of all create a complex that can accommodate households, but also work and entertainment, including a flat integrated structure, though independent, for the mother of the owner, and finally to optimize as much as possible the use of outdoor spaces. In particular, the architects of Los Angeles have sought creation of an art studio for her husband, workspaces, and an art gallery for the work done by his wife.
Given the restrictions dictated by the size of the lot, the first observations of the designers took the idea to lighten the mass of the structure in order to get more outdoor spaces. Hence the exclusion of a single volume and the choice of designing structures made of blocks slightly offset from each other. Thus was also minimized the footprint of the structure plan.
The two volumes that make up the independent Mush Residence have a coating of zinc facade, interrupted by large windows with wooden profiles of ipecac, and develop two and three respectively. The two-story building houses the garage / studio with four cars, a first floor apartment and art studio on the second floor. The volume contains three floors of the main residence with living area and kitchen on the ground floor study and guest room on the second floor and sleeping on the third floor.
